Northern Berkshire Community Partnership for Children
The North Adams Public Schools is the lead agency and financial manager for the Northern Berkshire Community Partnership for Children (NBCPC).
Since 1993, the NBCPC has provided a network of early childhood services to children in Northern Berkshire County. Funded through an annual state grant by the Massachusetts Department of Education, the Partnership has worked to provide more comprehensive services to young children and to improve the quality of educational programming. The five objectives of the endeavor are to: increase the affordability and accessibility of preschool programs; provide comprehensive early childhood services; provide early childhood programs and services that are high-quality; enhance collaboration among families, community programs, businesses and other organizations to reduce duplication of services and promote equitable services; and conduct community outreach to ensure that children have opportunities to participate in a program that meets their needs and the needs of their families. Currently, twenty-eight family childcare providers, eleven center-based programs and nine school-based programs participate in the Partnership and over four hundred pre-school children benefit from Partnership services. An Early Childhood Advisory Council meets monthly to discuss issues related to the care and education of young children, to develop local strategies towards improving the early childcare system, and to assist in the implementation of state standards and guidelines for early education program and professionals.
