NORTH ADAMS – Drury High School is proud to announce that senior Alex Bergeron has been named a semifinalist in the 72nd annual National Merit® Scholarship Program. Alex is among more than 16,000 Semifinalists nationwide — representing less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors — who now have the opportunity to continue in the competition for approximately 6,700 National Merit Scholarships worth about $24 million, to be offered next spring. Alex is the first Drury student in a decade to be named a semifinalist in this program.
Alex has distinguished himself both inside and outside the classroom. By the end of his senior year, he will have completed 42 college credits while in high school. He is a member of Drury’s varsity soccer team, serves as a Student Ambassador, and was selected as a student leader for the school’s Portrait of a Graduate Student work; a role recognizing students who model well-rounded leadership and character. Alex has also given back to his community as a peer tutor and through summer employment with the school district for the past several years.

He is an exceptional scholar who consistently challenges himself academically, but what makes Alex truly stand out is the way he uses his talents to make our school community stronger. Whether serving as a Portrait of a Graduate student leader, mentoring his peers, participating in school activities, or simply stepping up whenever someone needs a hand, Alex leads with kindness, responsibility, and purpose. We are incredibly proud of all he has accomplished, and he is very deserving of this recognition as a National Merit Semifinalist.”
Semifinalists were selected from over 1.2 million entrants who took the 2025 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT®). To advance to Finalist standing, Alex must complete a detailed scholarship application, maintain an outstanding academic record, be endorsed by a Drury High School official, write an essay, and confirm his qualifying test performance with SAT® or ACT® scores.
