North Adams, MA — [Nov. 6, 2024] – Drury High School's 8th-grade civics class teamed up with the North Adams Lions Club to provide vital relief to those affected by Hurricane Helene in North Carolina. The partnership, which began as a classroom initiative, blossomed into a community-wide effort to assist families recovering from the devastation of the storm.

The initiative was led by 8th-grade students Ella Morgan and Abigail Hamilton, who worked alongside Mr. Demary and local leaders to organize a successful relief campaign. The class raised hundreds of dollars and successfully collected essential supplies, including food, clothing, and hygiene products, for those impacted by the hurricane. The North Adams Lions Club played a key role in the effort, organizing and promoting the fundraiser and significantly boosting its visibility within the community. All funds and supplies collected were shipped directly to North Carolina, where they will be distributed to families in need. The supplies were sent on a truck leaving North Adams on October 31, 2024.

This collaboration serves as a powerful reminder of the impact that civic engagement and community spirit can have, demonstrating how a small group of students, with the help of local organizations, can make a significant difference in the lives of those affected by a disaster.
