NORTH ADAMS – Drury High School student Colin Daly, who will graduate as valedictorian of the Class of 2025, was presented with the Massachusetts Association of School Superintendents Certificate of Academic Excellence at a meeting of the North Adams School Committee on Tuesday evening, December 3rd, 2024. This annual award honors high school seniors across the Commonwealth who have demonstrated distinguished academic performance and significant personal contributions to their school communities.
While a student at Drury, Colin has challenged himself academically, actively pursuing the learning opportunities offered to him; he will graduate with a weighted GPA of 4.6 having completed eight college courses through the MCLA Early College Program. He has been inducted into both the Nu Sigma and Pro Merito Honor Societies, was awarded the RPI Medal of Distinction During his junior year, and has received the Principal’s Award for having one of the top five averages in his class for four years.
In addition to his excellence in the classroom, Colin has been an integral part of the Drury boys soccer and basketball teams, has been an altar server at St. Elizabeth of Hungary Parish for the past nine years, is an active Student Ambassador, and has held a part-time job throughout high school. Assistant Superintendent Tim Callahan expressed admiration for Colin’s achievements inside and outside of school: “Colin has been an academic leader at Drury throughout his high school career, and his participation in athletics and service to the community demonstrates his commitment to improving himself and helping those around him. Colin is an exemplary student and is highly regarded by his peers.”
Reflecting on his time at Drury, Colin shared “Drury has given me many great experiences, but one of the parts I enjoyed most was the ability to be what I wanted to be when it came to my education. Drury provided a large amount of choice and exploration in their curriculum, especially in my junior and senior year with the Early College opportunities through MCLA. In such a challenging personal time as high school can be for many people, being able to explore and choose the main parts of your academic life is an incredible opportunity, and one that I am glad to have had here.”
